In the Area

Beyond the golf

Culture, coastline, football and one of Britain's great music cities, all within an easy drive of the residence.

Southport sits between open coastline and a world-class city. Whether the group is here for golf, a celebration or a quiet escape, there is more than enough to fill the days that are not spent on the links.

Liverpool City Centre

45 minutes by road or rail

Liverpool City Centre

One of Britain's great cultural cities, and close enough for an easy evening out. The waterfront and Royal Albert Dock hold the Tate Liverpool, the Museum of Liverpool and the Maritime Museum, while Bold Street and the Baltic Triangle offer some of the best independent dining in the north west. Add the two cathedrals, the Philharmonic Hall, War rooms, St George's Hall and a theatre district within walking distance of each other, and a day here fills itself.

The Beatles

40 minutes by road

The Beatles

The city where it all began, and still the best place to hear the story properly. Visit the rebuilt Cavern Club on Mathew Street, The Beatles Story on the Albert Dock, and the National Trust houses at Mendips and 20 Forthlin Road where Lennon and McCartney grew up. Private guided tours can take in Penny Lane and Strawberry Field in a single afternoon, and can be arranged with a driver from the residence.

Everton & Liverpool Football Clubs

35 to 45 minutes by road

Everton & Liverpool Football Clubs

Two of England's most storied clubs sit within a few miles of each other. Everton have moved to their new waterfront home at Bramley-Moore Dock, one of the most striking new stadiums in Europe, while Anfield offers a stadium tour and museum alongside matchday tickets. Matchday tickets are limited and sell quickly, so let us know your dates early and we will look into what is available.

The River Mersey

40 minutes by road

The River Mersey

The river that shaped the region, and best seen from the water. The Mersey Ferry crossing to the Wirral gives you the full sweep of the Liverpool waterfront, and on the far bank there are coastal walks, Port Sunlight's model village and the Lady Lever Art Gallery. Sunset from the Pier Head is worth timing a trip around.

Southport

On the doorstep

Southport

A classic Victorian seaside town and the residence's home. Lord Street's tree-lined canopy of glass verandas is lined with independent shops, restaurants and bars, and the pier is the second longest in the country. There are formal gardens, the Atkinson arts centre, a marina and a lake, plus a good spread of restaurants for evenings when nobody wants to travel far.

The Sefton Coast

5 to 20 minutes by road

The Sefton Coast

A protected National Character Area packed with unique wildlife and landscapes, miles of dunes, pinewoods and open beach run the length of the coast. Formby is known for its red squirrel reserve and prehistoric footprints revealed at low tide, Ainsdale is a national nature reserve, and Crosby beach holds Antony Gormley's Another Place, one hundred cast-iron figures standing out into the tide. Ideal for a morning walk before or after a round.
